Music at Bethel Lutheran Church
Musik in der Evangelisch-Lutherischen Bethel Kirche
 

Nellie Scholtes, mezzo-soprano, holds an Honours B. Music in Performance Voice from Wilfrid Laurier University.  Upon graduation she sang with the Canadian Opera Company for several seasons.  In addition she maintained a private music studio teaching voice and piano and was an adjunct professor at Wilfrid Laurier University teaching Ear Training and Rudiments.  She has also taught at Emmanual Bible College and Christ Lutheran School.  Nellie has served the Lord as organist and Director of Music in various churches continuously since the age of seventeen.  She was actively involved with the Concordia Centre of Worship and Music for several years and is also a member of the Royal Canadian College of Organists.  She commenced as Director of Music at Bethel in September 2005. 

Nellie sings professionally with the Elora Singers, one of Canada’s finest professional chamber choirs, and the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and the Mendelssohn Singers.  Nellie also enjoys providing piano accompaniments for several local violin studios. 

Nellie is married to Dr. Waldemar Scholtes, Assistant Professor of German at the University of Guelph and orgainist and choir director of the German Parish at St. Mary’s RC Church, Kitchener.  They have two sons, Matthias, an aircraft maintenance engineer, and Marcus, a violinist.

Brass Band plays for worship services approximately once per month.
Der Posaunen Chor spielt etwa einmal im Monat im Gottesdienst.

Children’s Music Ministry

Tone Chime Choir, for children and youth, rehearses Sundays at 10:40 am.

Sunday School Music:  Weekly pre-service hymn singing Sundays at 9:10 as well as weekly age appropriate songs during Sunday School hour.  The children sing in church services approximately once per month.

Instrumentalists, pianists and singers from within the congregation participate regularly in worship services. Project oriented groups and Instrumental and vocal ensembles frequently enhance our special occasions and youth services.
